At Online Compass Live, we believe your real-time physical position and orientation are strictly private. All calculations — including compass orientation smoothing, spirit level bubble vectors, GPS speedometer velocity, astronomical solar positions, and World Magnetic Model (WMM) declination algorithms — execute entirely inside your device's browser using JavaScript.
2. Zero Server Transmission or Logging
Your geographic coordinates (latitude, longitude, altitude) and hardware sensor data (accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer) are never transmitted to our web servers, third-party analytics, or cloud storage. When you close the browser tab, all transient sensor states are instantly cleared.
3. Local Storage for Saved Waypoints
If you use the Waypoint Tracker instrument to save custom wilderness coordinates (e.g. campsite or trailhead), those coordinates are saved strictly within your browser's private localStorage sandbox. They remain on your physical hardware only and are never synced across the internet.
4. Offline Backcountry Operation (PWA)
This website includes an embedded Service Worker and Web App Manifest. Once loaded, you can disconnect from Wi-Fi or cellular networks and continue using all instruments offline in remote backcountry environments.
